How do you parent, work and still maintain the sanity to do it all over again tomorrow? Well, one tip is the library. Yep. The good ole fashioned (which some would argue is going out of style) library. Don’t overlook this “archaic” entity in the glam of our Digital Age.
I wondered how I would get my son’s 30-minute reading done every night. First of all, we travel by train/bus, and Uber to and from home. Where would I find the energy to read anything to him at all before bedtime? Thankfully, I mustered up the energy to read to him while on the train using leftover books we had in he house.
After scraping through what seemed to be all of the literature we owned, I turned to YouTube for read along books. Then, the strangest things happen on the train. Can you guess? Signal loss. Go figure. Technology at its finest. It was either signal failure or low battery affecting our reading time. Needless to say, I needed a more reliable source.
On one of our bus rides home, it dawned on me to get off by the library. This would indefinitely mean adding an extra stop heading home, but this sacrifice would be worth it.
So, here we are-at the glorious Brooklyn Public Library, just minutes away from the famed Brooklyn Museum. My son was ecstatic. The architecture alone was captivating, let alone the children’s corner we found inside. There we were, in a sea of of books that were tangible, not running out of battery or wireless signals. Plus, if memory serves me correctly, you can take out up to 25 books at a time. Readings, done!
Now, the task of reading on the train is a little easier. Am I tired? Yesssss!!! But, will God make a way to alleviate my fatigue? You can bet on that.
Until next time…
