As I sit here kicked back and feet up, I’ve decided to pause… for me. I’ve been on the go lately, committing to everyone and everything-child, job, the setup of childcare, etc. And, while handling all of these responsibilities is good, and necessary, Momma needs “yon ti repo” (the Haitian way of saying: a little rest)! Our bodies, like machines need maintenance.
My favorite thing to do in my down time (and pretty much any time) is to be engulfed in S.T.Y.L.E! My happy place.
Without further ado, let’s get into some looks:
I purchased the following cape from NISHKAMI during one of Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM’s) Dance Africa festivals in Brooklyn, NY. But, the EMPRESS Long Cape Blazer has been going places, as you will see:
The Cape at Nuptials
Here she is at my cousin’s wedding! I paired her with a floral jumpsuit from Marshall’s that I cleverly cut the straps off of. The black crossed woven stilettos were already in my closet and my co-worker blessed me with the staple necklace. It was a match made in heaven! Although the cape has a life of its own with African print, feel free to couple her with florals!
The Cape in Foliage
This view of EMPRESS gives off Queen vibes. It’s the first time I captured her from the back. And, no matter how regal she is, you can pair her with flats, (seen here), hooped earrings, and a fitted LBD underneath.
The Cape in Cinema
What better way to pull out all of the frills for your birthday, than with the EMPRESS cape! All I needed was a tank top, distressed jeans and platform booties. I didn’t end up seeing The Wasp, but looked good posing in front of their ad. It was my birthday and I could floss if I wanted to.
The Cape at ESSENCE Street Style Awards (2018)
I reunited with NISHKAMI! It’s always good seeing a familiar face. The woman behind this cape, seen rocking the wide brimmed fedora and brown locs, is NISHKAMI herself, creator of EMPRESS! Her styles are unique and true to the beauty of Africa. I feel a sense of pride wearing this cape, like the African Queen I am. Thank you for making such a beautiful piece. Stay creative. I hope to buy more staples from you soon!
